What Conclusions Has Your Mind Reached?

July 19, 2011

“Allowing your mind to reach any unhappy conclusion about the
limitless possibilities of your life — and then agreeing with
the same because you now see yourself through the narrow eyes
of that negative state — is no different than believing the tip
of your nose is the end of the world!”

— Guy Finley

Are You Sailing?

April 28, 2011

“Greatness is not where we stand, but in what direction
we are moving. We must sail sometimes with the wind
and sometimes against it but sail we must, and not
drift, nor lie at anchor.” ~Oliver Wendall Holmes

How Are You Using Your Present Moments?

March 21, 2011

“You’ll seldom experience regret for anything that you’ve done.
It is what you haven’t done that will torment you. The message,
therefore, is clear. Do it! Develop an appreciation for the
present moment. Seize every second of your life and savor it.
Value your present moments. Using them up in any self-defeating
ways means you’ve lost them forever.”
~Wayne Dyer

Wise To Think Twice, Speak Once

March 10, 2011

“Wise persons are those who think twice before speaking once.”

“Perhaps the greatest quality in a leader and the most valuable skill in building relationships is the ability to think before you speak. If you have a tendency to speak hastily in anger and regret your actions at leisure, the childhood admonition to count to ten before speaking will still serve you well. When you pause — if only for a moment — to consider the consequences, you may think better of what you were about to say. And if you must speak strongly, it’s a good idea to sugarcoat the words — just in case you have to eat them later.”

Learn the Lesson and Drop It!

February 24, 2011

“A painful regret is a needless present pain over an experience
now past, where a misstep becomes the seed of a misery mistakenly
carried forward, instead of a lesson learned and then dropped.”

— Guy Finley

Are You Dancing Like No One’s Watching?

January 28, 2011

DANCE LIKE NO ONE’S WATCHING
Author Unknown

“We convince ourselves that life
will be better after we get married,
have a baby, then another.
Then we are frustrated that the kids aren’t old enough
and we’ll be more content when they are.

After that we’re frustrated that we
have teenagers to deal with,
we will certainly be happy
when they are out of that stage.

We tell ourselves that our life will be complete
when our spouse gets his or her act together,
when we get a nicer car,
are able to go on a nice vacation,
when we retire.
The truth is there’s no better time
to be happy than right now.
If not now, when?

Your life will always be filled with challenges.
It’s best to admit this to yourself
and decide to be happy anyway.
One of my favorite quotes comes
from Alfred D Souza.  He said, “For a long time it had seemed
to me that life was about to begin -real life.
But there was always some obstacle in the way,
something to be gotten through first,
some unfinished business,
time still to be served,
a debt to be paid. Then life would begin.
At last it dawned on me that these
obstacles were my life.”

This perspective has helped me to see
that there is no way to happiness.
Happiness is the way,
so, treasure every moment that you have.
And treasure it more because you shared it
with someone special,
special enough to spend your time…
and remember that time waits for no one.

So stop waiting until you finish school,
until you go back to school,
until you lose ten pounds,
until you gain ten pounds,
until you have kids,
until your kids leave the house,
until you start work,
until you retire,
until you get married,
until you get divorced,
until Friday night,
until Sunday morning,
until you get a new car or home,
until your car or home is paid off,
until spring, until summer,
until fall, until winter,
until you are off welfare,
until the first or fifteenth,
until your song comes on,
until you’ve had a drink,
until you’ve sobered up,
until you die, until you are born again
to decide that there is no better time
than right now to be happy…
Happiness is a journey, not a destination.

So, work like you don’t need money.
Love like you’ve never been hurt and
dance like no one’s watching.”

Step By Step

January 20, 2011

“You just don’t luck into things as much as you’d like to think you do. You build step by step, whether it’s friendships or opportunities.”

~ Barbara Bush

Do I Wish To…

January 18, 2011

“Until the wish to know myself comes before the wish to please myself, it’s impossible to do either one.”

~Guy Finley

Count the Moments You Reject Today

January 11, 2011

“Count the moments you reject on any given day and you have
before you the number of ways in which you’ve refused Life’s
great invitation to change your relationship with it.”

— Guy Finley
